Charles Smiley has been an employee at The Morton Center since April 2023. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2015 from the University of Louisville, earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree in 2017, and received a Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW) in 2019 from the Kent School of Social Work at the University of Louisville. Charles is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based therapy used to treat trauma and emotional challenges.

Charles has nearly 10 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in the mental health field. He has worked in various settings, providing services in psychiatric emergencies, crisis stabilization/residential care, criminal justice, homelessness/housing, developmental disabilities, private practice, school-based therapy, community-based therapy, and individual/family therapy.

In his role at The Morton Center, Charles serves as a therapist, focusing on substance abuse treatment. His responsibilities include providing support, presenting psychoeducational materials, facilitating group processing, integrating mental health strategies, and equipping clients with tools and resources to overcome barriers. His goal is to promote long-term recovery and an improved quality of life for his clients.

Charles is deeply passionate about delivering impactful services and empowering change and stability in the lives of those he serves. He utilizes evidence-based modalities tailored to each individual’s needs to achieve person-centered, goal-oriented outcomes.

Charles believes in the empowerment and forgiveness of thy self, to allow room for fostering growth, to improve the quality of life for his clients.

In his spare time, Charles enjoys spending time with his family, engaging in sports, hiking, learning new skills, and binge-watching Netflix.
